Router Lights Not Working or Blinking? What They Mean

Understand common router LED meanings and what to do when power, internet, or Wi-Fi lights are off or blinking.

Front-panel lights are a quick health check. Exact icons differ by brand, but patterns are similar.

Common LEDs

  • Power: unit has electricity
  • Internet / WAN: link to modem or ISP
  • Wi-Fi: wireless radios on
  • LAN: wired device activity
  • WPS: pairing mode (disable WPS when idle)

If lights are off

  1. Confirm the outlet and power adapter.
  2. Try another outlet.
  3. Power cycle modem and router.
  4. If power LED stays dead, hardware or adapter failure is likely.

If internet light is red or off

Check the modem, coax/fiber cable, and ISP outage status. Admin WAN page tips: Wi-Fi connected but no internet.
