How to Back Up and Restore Router Settings

Export a router configuration backup before firmware updates or experiments, and restore it if something breaks.

A configuration backup saves Wi-Fi names, port forwards, and other settings so you can restore them after a reset or failed change.

Back up

  1. Log into the router.
  2. Open Administration / System / Backup & Restore.
  3. Click Backup or Export. Save the file somewhere safe.

Restore

  1. Return to the same menu.
  2. Choose Restore or Import and select the file.
  3. Wait for reboot. Do not unplug power.

Tips

  • Back up before firmware updates: firmware guide.
  • Backups are often model-specific; do not load a file from a different hardware version.
  • Treat backup files as sensitive; they may contain passwords.
