Firmware is the software that runs on your router. Updates can fix bugs, improve stability, and close security holes. Install only official firmware from your brand or ISP.
Update from the admin page
- Log into the router (how to log in).
- Open Administration, System, or Firmware Upgrade.
- Check for an online update, or upload a file from the manufacturer support site.
- Do not power off during the flash.
- Wait for reboot, then confirm the new version number.
Precautions
- Use Ethernet when possible.
- Match the exact model and hardware version on the download page.
- ISP gateways may only update through the provider app or remote push.
If the router becomes unreachable after a failed update, try a power cycle, then the brand’s recovery method, or factory reset as a last resort.
