How to Create a Wi-Fi Hotspot from Your Phone

A mobile hotspot turns your phone’s cellular data into a small Wi-Fi network for a laptop or tablet. Useful during ISP outages.

iPhone

1. Settings → Personal Hotspot (or Cellular → Personal Hotspot).
2. Enable Allow Others to Join.
3. Set a Wi-Fi password.
4. On the PC, join the iPhone’s network name.

Android

1. Settings → Network → Hotspot & tethering → Wi-Fi hotspot.
2. Set name and password → Enable.
3. Connect the PC to that SSID.

Tips

• Watch data caps.
• Use WPA2 and a strong password.
• This is not the same as your home router login IP. For home admin access see router login.
