Router Default Passwords and Usernames (Common Brands)

Common router default passwords and usernames for home gateways. Always check the sticker first. Links to TP-Link, Netgear, ASUS, Xfinity, and more.

Factory default passwords let you open a new or reset router. They are not secret forever. Change them after setup. The sticker on your device is more accurate than any generic list.

Most common factory pairs

  • Username admin / password admin
  • Username admin / password blank
  • Username admin / password password
  • Username user / password user
  • ISP-printed unique password on the gateway label

How to use defaults safely

  1. Confirm the gateway IP with the sticker or Default Gateway on your device.
  2. Open http:// plus that IP in the address bar.
  3. Try sticker credentials before generic admin/admin.
  4. Change the admin password and Wi-Fi password after login.

Note: Searches for printer, UPS, or camera defaults (HP, Xerox, APC, and similar) are different products. This page focuses on home routers and ISP gateways.
